Dressing well doesn’t necessarily mean having an expensive wardrobe, it could mean styling the one you have with intention. Here are 5 things that happen to a woman when she dresses well.
Research shows that you can tell a lot about someone’s personality, politics, status, age and income just from looking at a photo of their shoes.
1.Dressing Well Changes the Way We Think About Ourselves
Your outfit impacts your mindset. How a woman dresses changes the way she thinks because it changes the way she feels. When you dress well, you feel good about yourself. Thoughts follow emotions, just as emotions follow the thoughts we have.
An author of the study, Abraham Rutchick, stated, “Putting on formal clothes makes us feel powerful, and that changes the basic way we see the world.” source
When you dress well you feel good about yourself and your self confidence increases.
2. Dressing Well Causes Others to Perceive You as Being Smart
In 1991, the Clothing and Textiles Research Journal conducted a study titled Influence of Dress on Perception of Intelligence and Expectations of Scholastic Achievement.
The study included over 900 students and teachers in Ohio and found that both students and teacher assumed that students wearing dressier, nice clothes had both:
- A higher IQ
- Higher grades source
By just dressing well, you’ll be perceived as more intelligent to others.

3. Dressing Well Attracts Like Minded People
The subconscious connection
The clothes you wear and the way you present yourself will change the way other people hear what you say. It will subconsciously tell them if you’re like them or different. It will determine the way they see you, whether they’ll listen to you, and whether they trust you.
What you wear matters. Whether you believe it or not, how you dress changes who you are. It changes the value of what you have to say.
4. How We Dress Affects Our Performance
For better focus, dress like a doctor. In research published in July 2012 in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, subjects made half as many mistakes on an attention-demanding task when wearing a white lab coat. On another attention task, those told their lab coat was a doctor’s coat performed better than either those who were told it was a painter’s smock or those who merely saw a doctor’s coat on display. —Matthew Hutson
All participants performed the same task, but those wearing the “doctor’s coat” were more careful and attentive. Their actions were influenced by their clothing.

5. Feeling Sad? Dressing well can improve your mood
Feeling sad or upset? While our mindset most definitely affects the way we dress; the reverse may also hold true. What we wear could affect how we cope on days when we are depressed, anxious and stressed. Research says the quickest little fix for a bad day is to wear brightly colored clothes. Cheerful colors work as a mini pick-me-up; and thus boosting our mood and energy. Also, we associate bright colors with happiness, sunny days, and carefree times.
