How to Keep Avocado from Browning
Avocados once cut, turn brown when exposed to the air due to oxidation (oxygen exposure). Oxygen is an avocado’s worst enemy. Avocados start to turn brown after about 4 hours, but there are a few things you can do to slow that down.
Sprinkling lime juice over mashed avocados in guacamole, or placing sliced avocados in cold water for a short period of time. Tightly wrapping the surface of the avocado with plastic wrap probably works the best. Press the cling wrap down onto the surface of the mixture in a bowl or container to remove all of the air.
Best Ever Easy Guacamole
The recipe is made with all fresh ingredients – avacodos, tomatoes, white onion, and Himalayan sea salt to taste. Avacodos are rich in nutrients and help maintain healthy cholesterol levels. Tomatoes are a great source of vitamin C amongst other things, and Himalayan pink sea salt is rich in trace minerals.
Best Ever Easy Guacamole
Ingredients:
Avocados – choose avacodos that are ripe. They don’t feel mushy or too hard.
Tomatoes – choose ripe tomatoes that don’t feel mushy or too hard.
White onion – You only need a small amount (1/4 c) and be sure to chop finely.
Salt – I use pink Himalayan sea salt, but just use your favorite. Don’t omit the salt or your guacamole will taste bland.
Recipe:
Prep time: 10 minutes, Serves: 4
- 3 avacodos
- 1 medium sized tomato
- 1/4 cup finely chopped white onion
- Salt to taste
Instructions:
1. Cut the avacodo in half lengthwise, remove the pit and scoop the green avacodo flesh out.
2. Mash the avacodo in a bowl with a fork or potato masher to the degree of chunkiness you like.
3. Chop your onion and tomato and add to the mashed avocado and add the salt. Stir to combine all.
4. Serve and enjoy!
